Small step for man, GIANT step for Papa

November 11, 2009

Two days ago, the feeding tube was removed (actually he forgot he wasn’t allowed to removed it, and he removed it and the nurse just left it) Papa ate his first meal in four weeks! The only thing is, after another day of solids, he still hasn’t pooed. The enema procedure isn’t very nice.

Yesterday, he made his first round on the wheel chair around the ward with his physical therapist. He was so tired then, but today he was fine. Just a little confused. He says, “I get this feeling … this feeling … that I’m not allowed anything. … And what is wrong with me? … The thing I want to do, I can’t,” referring to moving his legs to do his exercises. While his body grows stronger everyday, so does his awareness of his surroundings, and his limitations. It makes him a little fearful. But after a some sound reminding and a little visit from his wife, he’s smiles again.

We are thankful for the GIANT step of your father and pray that there will follow more of these steps and wish you and your family all the strength you need. God bless you all!
